USA No 1 Hit record with St. Elmo’s Fire – 10 million albums sold worldwide !!

This review from the ‘Rewind’ festival, 2017, says it all:

“The man, who stole people’s hearts and hit number one with St. Elmo’s Fire (Man In Motion), delivered one of the best sets I have ever witnessed at Rewind. Full of drama, the Restless Heart performer rocked the audience, almost setting his guitar on fire. There are just a few guitarists with as much passion and skill, and if you factor in his sense of humour and ability to connect with the audience, he has it all. He’s a magician, able to change a guitar into a living, breathing creature capable of all the softness and depth one could imagine. No wonder there was a long queue of fans waiting for the opportunity to chat or take a selfie with him.”

It will be another amazing afternoon, don’t miss it !!

Sunday 29th April – SOLD OUT !!
John Reilly Introduces – Steve ‘Papa’ Edwards
1.30pm – 3.30pm

As a singer, songwriter, producer and natural live performer, Steve Papa Edwards has carved a vibrant musical niche, blazing some carnival-bright colours through a music scene that too often settles for blandness.
Dusty Springfield once praised the charms of a fictional son of a preacher man, Steve however is the genuine article. Born in England to Jamaican parents, his impeccable Caribbean credentials include blood kinship to the late, great Peter Tosh. His upbringing however was also shaped by the South Yorkshire city of Sheffield, a half-wild burgh on seven hills characterised by tough individualism, a gobby kind of wit and fecund creativity. As a songwriter Papa E studied a broad range of influences from giants like Bacharach and Lennon/McCartney to soul titans Stevie Wonder, Curtis Mayfield and Bobby Womack, via Brit essentials like Elvis Costello, plus the street energy of punk and Two Tone. Like fiery jerk chicken served with a side of crispy Yorkshire pudding, Papa represents a fertile blend of British and Jamaican culture.
As a collaborator, Papa has shared his capable chops with the likes of Basement Jaxx, Bob Sinclar, Cassius, Richard Hawley, Sly and Robbie and Arctic Monkeys’ Matt Helder. His craft has been further honed through working with his own musical collectives, including Moskow Edwards Project and Lords of Flatbush.
So bend an ear to a man of two islands, who cares for the beat of your heart rather than any hollow blah or bling. He’ll make you smile, he’ll make you sigh, he’ll make you think. Welcome to Papa’s world and come on in …

Have a listen …

Sunday 29th April – SOLD OUT !!
John Reilly Introduces – Henry Priestman & ‘Loved Up’ Les Glover
1.30pm – 3.30pm

So in this age of genre’s, niches and “tribes”, where does Henry fit in? Amazon.com seem to think he’s folk (“Chronicles…” topped the Amazon “Folk and World” charts on it’s release), Radio 2’s Johnnie Walker described Henry’s new direction as “music for grumpy old men”, The Daily Mail said he is “a master of the rueful observation”, the late Robert Sandall in The Sunday Times called it “rough hewn charm“, and elsewhere the phrase “post-punk-folk-protest” has been bandied about.

Henry Priestman’s “got form,” his “previous” including Yachts (described in Gene Sculatti’s U.S. book The Catalog of Cool as “Cole Porter Punk”!), It’s Immaterial, The Christians (writing all songs on their 1987 triple-platinum debut), sharing a mic and a number one single with Paul McCartney, and composing the title song for London West End musical “Dreamboats and Petticoats”.  To say nothing of a roll call of sessions for fellow North West luminaries including Lightning Seeds, Johnny Marr, Ian McCulloch, Pete Wylie, Ian McNabb and Echo & The Bunnymen, plus vocals on Jools Holland/Tom Jones’ 2004 CD.
